TV and political history was made last night as the UK party leaders went head-to-head in a live televised debate for the first time.
Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg took audience questions for one and a half hours, on topics ranging from immigration and education to the budget and British troops abroad. Opinion polls have showed that audiences were generally in support of Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg, who used his time on stage to condemn Labour and Conservative MPs for the expenses scandal - a poll after the debate showed that 43% of people thought that he performed the strongest.
