Women should aspire to be a size 14, according to the newly appointed equalities minister.
According to Lib Dem MP and new equalities minister Lynne Featherstone, all women should aspire to a curvy, hourglass figure like Mad Men's Christina Hendricks, in an effort to cut down on unrealistic expectations set by airbrushing and size zero models.
The MP said that too often, women were made to feel bad about their size as they were constantly comparing themselves with 'unattainable' figures of celebrities and models. This posed a 'significant risk to the physical and mental health of young people' she added, and in the worst cases could lead to anorexia and bulimia.
The minister is planning to put pressure on magazine editors and the advertising industry to stop using skinny models, and also plans to lobby for airbrushed images to carry a kitemark or disclaimer saying that they had been manipulated, like those in beauty adverts.
What do you think? Do you agree that women should aspire to be a size 14?
