The BBC has come under fire for sending over 400 staff to the Glastonbury festival, just weeks after revealing the expenses and earnings of its top executives.
The 407 staff sent to the festval included 125 permanent staff, 150 freelancers, 130 support staff, and a handful of senior executives who were given 'work passes' - just 32 less than were sent to cover the Olympics in Beijing. The number of staff attending was so high that the corporation had to block book hotels up to 10 miles away from the festival site in Somerset.
BBC TV coverage of the festival is estimated to draw in just a fraction of the viewing figures for Wimbledon, yet will cost licence-fee payers approximately £1.5 million.
