It might sound a bit obvious, but drinking at home before you go out is bad for your health.
A new study has found that pre-drinking, or 'front-loading', can lead to young people doing themselves greater harm both in terms of the amount they consume and the dangerous outcomes.
The research carried out in Switzerland found that those who drank before they left the house, had a higher boozing pace throughout the rest of the evening, meaning they ended up consuming twice the amount of alcohol overall.
As a result, front-loaders were also more likely to get involved in dangerous activities.
These included unplanned drug use, unprotected sex, experiencing blackouts, injuring themselves or getting involved in vandalism.
The results are being published in Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research next year and ask people to not underestimate the health risks from having a few cheeky drinks at home to get the night started.
