Wonderful Willow

Willow spring/summer 2011

Florence Welch, the flame-haired frontwoman of And The Machine fame, is fast becoming something of a style icon. We applaud her non-conformist alabaster skin, her proud and fiery hair, and her couldn’t give a damn approach to fashion. Although we do give a damn, big time. Part gothic witch, part English hippy, Flo’s style is now revered around the globe. And her new favourite label? Willow.

From live festival performances to red carpet appearances at film premieres, Florence Welch has rarely been snapped out of the Australian brand. The label, which is stocked online at net-a-porter.com outside of Oz, is the brainchild of designer Kit Willow. After previously showing during Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in her homeland, which included an exhibition where models dressed like forest nymphs in some woods, Kit has just presented the spring/summer 2011 collection via a gorgeous video, starring the stunning Emma Balfour and an equally stunning puma, as designer Kit is pregnant and unable to show in New York this season as planned.

The verdict? Apparently using nature as inspiration, Willow’s spring range didn’t disappoint. Think cool club clothes including draped dresses with cut out detailing and marble print, crisp white blazers, edgy skirts adorned with spikes, power shoulder jackets, fringed jumpers, sequinned minis and bra tops in acid yellow.

Despite launching in 2003, Willow is still an up-and-coming name and un-established brand outside of Australia. We predict that this is about to change. Remember where you heard it first.
