Vivienne Westwood goes green(er)
Shes spoken out about the importance of protecting the environment before (remember her revelations of rarely washing her clothes and swapping deodorant for talcum powder to be more eco-friendly?), and now Vivienne Westwood is urging us all to do more.
The fashion legend is launching a new jewellery collection, called Get a Life, made from the precious metal, palladium, as part of her wider environmental campaign.
The new line features rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants and tiaras inspired by nature and symbols of paganism - think acorns, oak trees and hearts representing strength, luck and hope - in a bid to inspire people to act, affect, preserve and allow our environment to flourish.
All pieces in the collection will be made from palladium and will be showcased in February 2011 during London Fashion Week. The limited edition jewellery will go on sale at selected Vivienne Westwood stores shortly after in March next year.
Get a Life is about how we can stop climate change and therefore preserve life for the next generation while at the same time get a better life, Westwood said. The acorn is symbolic of the rainforest, its importance and how its our first duty to save it.
Go on, take Vivs advice and go green.
