Turkish Delights, Whirling Dervishes and Two Spoons
I am feeling renewed and inspired after a very interesting introduction to a new country, Turkey. I was privileged that my introduction came from local people who led me to the source.
Not hindered by touristy roundabouts, I learnt about the art of rug making from the master and met artisans who literally shook with passion and creative energy for the trade as we discussed all details of the designs that will be made for me. I stayed in Konya, the heart of agricultural Turkey where the snow lay thick on the ground in extreme winter temperatures. I was introduced to Rumi, the thirteenth-century Persian philosopher and poet who emigrated and was entombed in Konya in c.1220. He founded the order of whirling Dervishes and writes with startlingly sensual freedom.
Struck by the colours of Turkey; the green of the mosque and the blue of the paintwork, I was looking for a third romantic picture for this Valentines post, to celebrate the day of love, and found these spoons that I bought many years ago in Portobello Antique market. They are perfectly symbolic to me of all good things for Valentines Day.
