I've found my perfect jeans...and my inner A-lister

It’s not often that you get your picture taken by a top celebrity photographer, but those nice folks at Levis are giving you (and me) just that opportunity.

Last night I went to the first of a series of evenings hosted by Levi’s at their flagship store on Regent’s street, where customers can register online to get fitted for a pair of Levis Curve ID jeans, before being styled, given a mini makeover and photographed by celebrity photographer Perou.

If you’re not familiar with his work, Perou has shot some of the hottest pop stars and actors of the moment, including Handbag’s resident crush Ryan Gosling, Katy Perry, Sienna Miller and Jay Z, but for this latest project he’s left celebsville in favour of photographing real women.

So what’s the appeal of this project? ‘It reflects where I am in my photography, I really enjoy shooting real women,’ he explains. ‘We’ve just been photographing women in Rome and Milan and I’d say that those pictures look just as good as the official pictures with models.’

But a real person is a very different subject to a celebrity who is used to spending half their life being photographed (I should know – it took two glasses of champagne before I’d go anywhere near the camera). What does Perou do to make his subjects relax? ‘I know it sounds cheesy, but it’s the Levis Curve ID jeans do it – women feel confident in them, they know they look great.’

Clearly Perous’s quite the brand ambassador, but what does he think about the current trend for pop stars taking their clothes off every time they’re ten meters from a camera (something we’re not entirely comfortable with round our way…)? ‘It’s more alluring to see less and leave more to the imagination – men do still like to leave a bit to the imagination.’

Last night was the first of a series of Levis Curve ID events taking place around London, the rest are:

  • 18 October House of Fraser, Westfield, London
  • 19 October House of Fraser, Oxford Street, London
  • 20 October Levi’s flagship store, London
  • For more information, to see the rest of the pictures from last night’s event and to register visit the Levi’s website.
