John Gallianos show is cancelled
While Christian Dior has decided to go ahead with its autumn/winter 2011 show later this afternoon in Paris despite the sacking of designer John Galliano, its been confirmed that the show for Gallianos eponymous label has been cancelled.
Instead, the John Galliano collection will still be shown to press and buyers on Sunday, but as a presentation only. The designer himself will, of course, not be present if reports are to be believed that he has entered a rehabilitation clinic outside of France.
In a nightmare week for Galliano, the disgraced designer was suspended by Christian Dior after allegations of anti-Semitic abuse and an assault were investigated by French police following an altercation in a Paris cafe. He was then sacked by the fashion house amidst mounting claims once a video surfaced on the internet showing the designer declaring his love for Hitler to a group of girls in another cafe.
Galliano denies all the claims made against him and has been co-operating with police in their investigation. However, earlier this week the Paris Prosecutors Office confirmed that the fallen designer will stand trial this spring on a charge of public insult over the incident at the Paris cafe, in which he allegedly hurled anti-Semitic abuse at Géraldine Bloch and her companion Philippe Virgiti. Galliano could face a prison term of up to six months and a fine of 22,500 if found guilty.
