Gala event closes stellar Graduate Fashion Week
Metal-embellished knitwear design by Graduate Fashion Week 2011 Gold Award winner Rory Langdon, Nottingham Trent.
Study carefully readers, this is a name to watch. Last night, Rory Langdon of Nottingham Trent scooped the £20k Gold Award at the Graduate Fashion Week gala night, which was attended by fashion insiders and celebrities including Barbara Hulanicki, Grace Woodward, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Louis Spence, Sugababe Heidi Range, TOWIEs Lydia Bright and TV presenters Jason Gardiner and Zara Martin.
Brushing away the gold confetti that cascaded onto the catwalk as he did his victory walk with models wearing his sensuous, metal-embellished knitwear collection, an elated Langdon told handbag.com, I cannot believe that I have won! I was up against such clever cutting and fantastic print designs. And what will he do with the prize money? Im going to use the money to fund my MA at RCA, which starts in September. This is going to help a lot towards that.
The other winners were equally effusive: womenswear award winner Marisa Owen of University of Central Lancashire, whose playful, patterned collection was another highlight, was in shock. Im made up and feel up for anything now. Ill definitely think about an MA in design next.
Looking super-glam in a teal satin cocktail dress from event sponsor Georges autumn/winter 2011 collection (look out for it in stores later this year its a winner!), we caught up with the labels creative director Fiona Lambert who told us how hard it was to choose the winners. There were four collections which could have won, but by the end we reached unanimous decision. Were delighted to sponsor Graduate Fashion Week, its been incredibly hard work but it is fantastic to see it come together and Id like to think well be back for more next year.
We know we will be, Fiona!
