Giles’ star-studded comeback

by Fiona Raisbeck
Giles Deacon makes a triumphant (and star-studded) return to London Fashion Week.

Forget the front row, Giles Deacon called on some of his celebrity friends to walk in his spring/summer 2011 show to celebrate his return to London Fashion Week last night. The fash pack flocked to a former lead and glass merchants warehouse near Farringdon in East London, to watch Giles’ comeback show and the unveiling of his first collection in the capital for a year and a half, after he switched to Paris for the last two seasons.

His stellar cast of models, all wearing glam rock glitter eyeshadow and liquid red lips, featured a mix of tabloid favourites and high fashion names, including buxom babe Kelly Brook, flirty (and pregnant) Liverpudlian Abbey Clancy, a mohawked Agyness Deyn, French fancy Noemie Lenoir, rock progeny Amber Le Bon and ‘60s supermodel Veruschka (I’ll never get bored of that name) – many of whom featured in the latest issue of show stylist Katie Grand’s Love magazine. Even former pop kitten-turned-car-crash-TV-star Kerry Katona sat front row.

As for the clothes, Giles’ latest collection is as fun, feminine and colourful as we’ve come to expect from the northern designer – think granddad jumpers, figure-hugging knee-length dresses, corset tops, pencil skirts, flared trousers and blouses – with heaps of holographic polka dots, fizzing neon brights, cartoon eyeball prints and candy colours.

Putting the fun into fashion? You bet. Giles, we salute you.
