Debenhams Edition is here

Ever since we heard that high street giant Debenhams was launching a new designer collaboration we’ve hardly been able to contain our excitement. As of now there’s a new go-to label for cutting edge design at affordable prices: Debenhams Edition.

The department store’s new designer concept sees some of the UK’s leading fashion names - print maestro Jonathan Saunders, cool design duo Preen and shoe designer Jonathan Kelsey - create capsule collections for the store for a minimum of four seasons.

The first drop of Edition launches in Debenhams stores nationwide and online on Monday 14 February, but if you really can’t wait until then and you’re near London you can visit the Edition pop-up shop nestled on Newburgh Street in the capital’s Carnaby shopping district from tomorrow.

And what can you expect from the spring diffusion ranges? Preen’s offering features a mix of “classic Preen pieces and silhouettes” such as Victoriana blouses, jersey maxi dresses, skinny jeans, slouchy ruffle T-shirts, fringed leather jackets and body-con cocktail minis – all with the brand’s signature rock ‘n’ roll edge.

Jonathan Saunders’ range stays true to his eponymous mainline with a vibrant use of colour and striking graphic prints – both hallmarks of the Scottish designer. The pieces have a chic understated feel and a clean minimalist silhouette with lots of architectural tailoring, summer jersey dresses and classic trench coats in a palette of neutral tones - think dove grey, taupe, white and black – with a dose of bright aqua and apple green. All easy-to-wear pieces with a strong day focus for spring.

As for the accessories, Jonathan Kelsey’s equestrian-inspired range will make the transition from daywear to evening glam a cinch with a collection of must-have heels, such as white crocodile effect cork wedges, black pumps adorned with rivets, cage detail shoe boots and ballerina flats with touches of rope detailing, glossy patent panels and shimmering gold. The handbags, meanwhile, feature saddle bag totes, evening clutches and nautical shoppers.

What’s more, all the pieces are at purse friendly prices too, starting at £28 for a T-shirt, rising to £99 for a trench coat. The Jonathan Kelsey shoes cost between £45 and £65 with handbags a snip from £28.

And with Roksanda Ilincic still to come (she will join the Edition design trio for autumn), the high street just got a lot more exciting.

Visit the Debenhams Edition pop-up shop from Thursday 10 February at 8 Newburgh Street, London, W1F 7RJ.
