Christopher Kane wins Fashion Fund
Christopher Kane can now celebrate another career milestone by adding a new gong to his ever growing collection of prizes: the 2011 British Fashion Council (BFC)/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund award.
The Scottish-born designer, one of London Fashion Weeks hottest design stars, beat off stiff competition from Jonathan Saunders, Peter Pilotto, Richard Nicoll, Osman and E. Tautz, as well as shoe designers Nicholas Kirkwood and Charlotte Dellal to scoop the prestigious prize.
Kane, who also co-designs Versaces diffusion line Versus, was named the winner after each of the eight finalists presented their collections and future business plans to a judging panel of industry experts. The designer and his business partner and sister, Tammy, will now receive a prize fund of £200,000 to help boost their labels global profile plus access to a bespoke mentoring programme to help the Christopher Kane brand achieve its goals over the next year.
Kane, who is known for his provocative designs using leather and lace, said: Im absolutely delighted to be this years winner of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. Its such an honour to receive this accolade especially when I have such huge respect for all the nominees.
The BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund award - only in its second year - was established to help British-based design talent to prosper internationally, with much-needed financial support and business support and mentoring. Erdem Moralioglu scooped last years prize for his eponymous label, Erdem.
Congratulations Christopher and Tammy!
