Carine Roitfeld reveals her next move
Ever since Carine Roitfeld announced that she was leaving her role as editor of Paris Vogue, the fashion world has been eagerly anticipating her next move. Well, the guessing game is over: Roitfeld has revealed that she will become the guest editor and stylist for the autumn/winter 2011 season at New Yorks leading department store, Barneys.
The former Vogue editrix will collaborate with renowned Italian photographer Mario Sorrenti and Barneys creative director Dennis Freedman on the initiative -her first big move post-Paris Vogue. The project will include styling and editing the stores advertising campaigns (shot by Sorrenti), customer catalogue and newsletters, as well as the Madison Avenue windows, which will be unveiled in September to coincide with New York Fashion Week.
Its very exciting, Roitfeld told WWD. Its a new kind of project for me. Its good to have a new life, because now I can do projects that I never dreamed of before.
She added: For me, Barneys has always been the biggest name in luxury department stores, so to be able to participate in this project with them, is my dream come true. To a French girl, its a big, big dream.
The project means that the Parisian, who is also working on a book about her life as a stylist, will now be spending more time in New York, where her daughter Julia and son Vladimir live.
She said: New York is my dream city, and part of my family is in New York.
Freedman revealed that not only will Roitfeld style and edit the campaign, but she will act as a muse and inspiration too, with Sorrenti producing a short film with snippets about her views on fashion and style for the Barneys shopper.
And what does she make of all the rumours swirling around about her taking over at the likes of Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Givenchy?
Each day its changing, she said. One day I am going to Dior with Riccardo Tisci, the next day I am going to Saint Laurent with Hedi Slimane...its just rumours. What I know is that I now have my freedom and I am very excited to have this freedom, and to have projects like the one at Barneys.
Shes excited? Were excited - and cant wait to see the results.
