Burberrys triumphant spring collection
Well, hes done it again. Burberry Prorsums creative director, Christopher Bailey, produced another triumphant collection for the classic British label for spring/summer 2011. It was once more a case of leaving the best till last (as London Fashion Week draws to a close today), as the show pulled in the starriest front row of the week for the unveiling of the best collection.
Always a much-anticipated occasion, the show didnt disappoint. Held in the halls of the Chelsea College of Art and Design, the show, set to an acoustic soundtrack including 17 Again by The Eurythmics, featured some of the best coats ever to grace a catwalk. The classic leather biker jacket remains an emblem of cool, and the Burberry Prorsum version for spring is tough-girl chic at its best with authentic ribbed biker padding on the elbows and shoulders, and quilted panels.
Other coats were embellished with glistening gold spikes, glossy black sequins or glazed with a metallic sheen. There were also some cool skinny biker trousers in futuristic silver and gothic black leather, shift dresses in electric blue and apple, belted trench coats in stone, and pretty dresses in rose, midnight blue, gold and animal print. The accessories were all top notch too with handbags and belts seen in mint green, turquoise and lime.
As for the front row, the show saw Sarah Jessica Parker make her London Fashion Week debut, after she jetted into the capital yesterday to attend Alexander McQueens memorial service. She sat alongside fashion week veteran Alexa Chung, tennis stars Serena Williams and Andy Murray, and actor and Burberry model Douglas Booth. Elsewhere in the venue, which projected video footage of the show on to the walls, sat American Vogue editrix Anna Wintour, her French counterpart Carine Roitfeld and her daughter Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, stylist Caroline Sieber, Pixie Geldof, Another magazine editor Jefferson Hack, shoe designer Patrick Cox, photographer Mario Testino, and TV personalities Cat Deeley and Donna Air.
Show ticket get lost in the post? Dont worry, because you can view a video of the whole catwalk show on the Burberry website now to take a peek for yourself. What's more, you can also pre-order items from the collection now to be delivered next season. Is there anything that Christopher Bailey hasn't thought of? We think not.
