Stella McCartney's chari-tee
Keira Knightley among celebs wearing the designer Comic Relief t-shirt. By Danielle Radojcin
"Do something fun for money." That was the brief set by Comic Relief for Red Nose Day 2009. Stella McCartney, for her part, has designed a bunch of t-shirts available exclusively at TK Maxx stores nationwide with all proceeds from sales going to the charity, which helps people around the world cope with extreme poverty.
The tees, which cost £9.99, have been wholly manufactured in Africa and are made from 100% fair trade cotton. Featuring iconic images of the Beatles and Morecambe And Wise wearing red noses, they appear in a campaign shot by Stella's sister Mary McCartney, with a bespectacled Keira Knightley, among other celebrities, as model. "The designs of the t-shirts were inspired by iconic images of iconic people by iconic photographers and adding an element of humour to them," said Stella McCartney. "I wanted to focus on photographs where people are happy and create a charity t-shirt that would become a staple of a person's wardrobe."
