Chanel's 'Boy'
It has been argued by some fashion cynics that 'it' bags have had their moment, and should be relegated to the vaults of fashion history (alongside culottes and velvet scrunchies). But not so fast - autumn/winter 2011 has heralded the arrival of a new gaggle of amazing arm candy, and here at Handbag Towers we're not ready to give up on our favourite accessories just yet (although the scrunchies can stay where they are).
In a notoriously fickle fashion climate, 'It' bags are staple items that will see you through from season to season. Were not suggesting everyone rushes out and buys each season's newest bag like some kind of crazed accessories fiend. That cheapens the allure of the 'It' bag, and would leave most of us living off baked beans for 6 months of the year.
Instead, invest in one gloriously crafted piece of leather (or liquid-filled plastic, at Christopher Kane) that will provide years of thought-free dressing and sartorial pleasure.
One of the first things you notice at fashion week is that everyone has an 'It' bag whether or not they also have a designer outfit to go with it. Its an effortless way of adding instant chic to any look. So many women carry Mulberry Bayswaters or Longchamp shoppers whether or they're an accountant, a teacher or a fashion journalist, because its a great way of accessing fashion without cracking out a Lady GaGa lobster hat. Plus, if you take care of them, theyll keep their shape, last ages and make you look instantly 'polished' for years.
So long live the 'It' bag! We know the prices can be eye-watering, but if you think about pay-per-wear, youll be surprised at how easy it is to convince yourself to splash some cash.
