Today we can reveal a very exciting design partnership – Temperley London and Filofax. Alice Temperley, MBE is creating two exclusive designs for the British brand in a collection called ‘Your Life in Your Hands’ which will launch at London Fashion Week next February. While we’re all hopelessly addicted to our smart phones, there’s something so special about the feel of pencil on paper that we’ll never give up our diaries and organisers. Over the years our trusty pink Filofax has been the receptacle for dates, lists, show tickets and other ‘essential’ paraphernalia.
Somerset-born designer Alice Temperley is riding high at the moment; in 2011 she celebrated ten years of Temperley London with a spectacular fashion show at the British Museum (our LFW highlight) and the publication of a beautiful coffee table book, True British, which tells the story of her decade-long career. Alice delved into her archives (including her many well-worn Filofaxes – yes, she was already a fan of the brand) to produce the book and it seems this trip down memory lane also influenced the designs she developed for Filofax. Alice hasn’t just applied her unique aesthetic to the two different covers; she’s also completely redesigned the interior and had input into every section, page and category so the user will get an insight into how Alice organizes her own, extremely busy, life.
Alice Temperley told Handbag, “Having used notebooks and keeping seriously organised over the years, this is a design journey I’m incredibly excited about. Files and sketchbooks have always been there through my time as a designer, giving me a personal space to keep my ideas, sketches, scribbles, photos and personal notes in. I was given total design freedom by Filofax and the result is a couple of unique and luxurious designs, I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
Temperley London is the go-to label for A-listers who love the eclectic, feminine, romantic gowns and whimsical prints that define Alice’s signature style. While we can only dream of owning one of those fantasy frocks, a Temperley-designed Filofax is a more realistic option and as it would be both beautiful and useful, we can totally justify it. We can’t wait to see how she translates that into the Filofax collection and we’ll be following the design process with interest.
