The English heritage trend was a big player on the catwalks, especially heritage prints, with everything from houndstooth to tartan making an appearance. Vivienne Westwood made tartan edgy and cool in the ‘80s with her punkish designs for Anglomania, and the grunge scene reclaimed it in the ‘90s (calling it plaid) making it a symbol for counter-culture.

Personally, we’re channelling ‘90s tartan: think Alicia Silverstone and Stacey Dash in matching tartan outfits in Clueless. Richard Nicoll has designed a very cool collection of tartan clothing for Fred Perry, and you’ll be hard-pressed not to find a check piece on the high street.
