One of the biggest problems with any sport-related activity is the issue of how to look vaguely presentable whilst working up a sweat. Whether its going to the gym, for a run, or jumping on your bike, its hard to preserve fashion credentials while getting some exercise. Good news: fashion designer Henry Holland is coming to the rescue of women everywhere, with his latest collaborative project. He is working with Sky and British Cycling for the Sky Ride initiative, and has designed a chic cycling jacket, which according to the designer should keep ladies looking fabulous on two wheels, whatever time of day or year, wherever they happen to be going. Its a pretty shade of cornflower blue, covered with reflective polka dots and bicycles (safety first!) and styled with a Peter Pan collar, ruched sleeves and a box pleat at the back for movement. All in a handy waterproof fabric, of course.
We caught up with Henry at the launch, where he was excited about his latest creation. He hinted at the possibility of sportswear being a future direction for the House of Holland brand (wed like to see HOH-designed Team GB outfits for the next Olympics) and expressed his own love for cycling even though he doesnt own a bike, he often steals his boyfriends classic Brompton bicycle for an altogether more stylish commute. Henry hopes that this fun cycling jacket will encourage fashion-conscious women to get on their bikes, ideally helping the Sky Ride campaign to reach their target of one million people cycling by 2013.
