Acclaimed London designer Richard Nicoll has designed his second Laurel Wreath collection for Fred Perry, and we are happy to report that it is a collaborative stroke of genius. Nicoll is known for his elegant, intelligent and print-led creations, while the Fred Perry brand is ingrained in the history of British subculture, making for the perfect combination of present and past. The Laurel Wreath collection from Fred Perry is a premium selection of limited edition garments which reflect the brand’s heritage; Richard Nicoll’s beautiful designs compliment the traditional Fred styling. Nicoll’s first Laurel Wreath offering was a huge success and included classic polo shirts reworked in pastel lurex knits as well as a distinctive oversized silk t-shirt dress.
For A/W ’11, Richard Nicoll for Fred Perry has taken on a distinctly 1960’s Beatnik feel. There is a hint of An Eductation in the wool A-line skirts and mohair cardigans, but the collection takes a more Mod stance with the addition of patent leather and the classic Harrington jacket. Shades of dark blue, fawn and a deep sherry red come together in a great tartan check, which has been used to update the signature silk t-shirt dress.
For die-hard Fred Perry fans, this Laurel Wreath collection is a dream come true; successfully combining all we know and love about the brand, while adding an injection of high-fashion elegance.
