Great news for fans of Alexander Wang's zeitgeist-y, luxe utilitarian signature. The award-winning designer has revealed that he is busy working on a new, yet-to-be-named range to complement his existing collections (the mainline and his concept jersey collection, T), which will focus on providing classic wardrobe "essentials".
"I don't want to say it is based on tailoring or business attire, but they're two different focuses," explains Wang, who will soft-launch the line alongside his upcoming resort collection.
It will initially feature three pants options, two jackets and one shirt, all selling at prices comparable to his mainline pieces.
"After last season we started looking at our carry-over business, what our customers come back for again and again," the designer told today's WWD. "There's also this perception that we're very young. Going to trunk shows, women always say, 'Oh my gosh, I love your brand.' This is our way of being more democratic."
When that equates to more Wang, who are we to argue? Expansion during such turbulent economic times is a sure-fire sign of something special and, as if we needed further proof of that, Wang also confirmed that he's on the verge of signing a lease to open his very first boutique in New York City.
Watch this one - world domination is surely not far behind.
