Victoria Beckham has been eliciting surprise from fashion critics, who have given her rave reviews for her second collection which she showed as part of New York Fashion Week. The collection, viewed by appointment rather than as a full-blown catwalk presentation, retains the ladylike silhouette of last season - body-hugging dresses, nipped-in waists, below-the-knee hem length - with some new pieces, such as day dresses in black wool felt and a cocktail dress inspired by her wedding gown.
The Victoria Beckham Collection was launched last September and is stocked at Harrods and Selfridges in the UK.
Fashion editors, jaded from the hype of so many flash in the pan celebrity fashion lines, have praised her dressmaking knowledge, and her commitment to creating timeless pieces. One writer even went so far as to cheekily suggest the former pop star has finally found her true calling - and shouldn't have bothered with the music career.
When asked who she would like to dress, Beckham told WWD, "Madonna - you can't do better than that!"
