Dover Street Market, the Comme des Garcons store in Mayfair, redesigns its interior every January, and this year restaurateurs turned design gurus Hassan Abdullah and Michel Lassere of Les Trois Garcons have been commissioned for the job. A corner of the second floor of the store has been devoted to the pair's famous style of interior design, which, like their restaurant in Shoreditch, includes an eclectic mix of antiques, such as glass chandeliers and lush tapestry-like rugs with quirky modern touches - in this case, an enormous black shiny octopus made from a foam-like material which they designed, and which is about to be dispatched to sit in the Comme shop window in Tokyo. The space is a showcase for Dover Street Market's women's shoe collection, which includes pieces by Nicholas Kirkwood, Jonathan Kelsey and Maloles. "We were commissioned by Rei [Kawakubo, designer of Comme] to rework the shoe space. We just found things that worked well with the shoes," Abdullah says, by way of explaining their approach, and pointing to a pair of Bruno Frisoni taupe pumps which sit alongside some pastel glass crockery on a cabinet shelf. Up next for the pair is a project to design the new Ladurée patisserie in Dubai, but in the meantime they are still putting the finishing touches to their Dover Street Market corner, which will be in place for the next month.
