Selfridges, one of the world's most famous department stores, is 100 years old, and to celebrate the shop has called on a host of designer pals to create limited edition pieces, all in Selfridges' signature canary yellow.
Paul Smith, Mulberry, Jimmy Choo, Marc Jacobs and Lulu Guinness are among those who have designed items to be sold exclusively in Selfridges throughout May. The stylish pieces include a made to order patent leather dress (£1,500) in the store's iconic colour (109 pantone to be precise) by Giles Deacon, a Marc Jacobs Stam handbag, a pair of heels by Giuseppe Zanotti, and a patent version of Mulberry's Bayswater handbag. In further birthday celebrations, the store has also commissioned five limited edition carrier bags, by Vivienne Westwood, Stella McCartney, Paul Smith and Giles Deacon - sure to become collectors' items.
The celebrations start tonight with a party at the London store on Oxford Street, where the shop will be decorated with 1,500 yellow origami-style airplanes, as well as lashings of champagne and birthday cake on offer. In addition, a series of shopping events will take place every weekend in May, where fashion designers Giles Deacon and Henry Holland will take up DJing duties, topped off with a retrospective exhibition.
