Crack addict Daniel Mykoo, 29, who reportedly had a £12,000-a-month habit, has been found guilty of 84 robberies and was dubbed "the most prolific violent robber to be sentenced in London in recent years" by Judge Nicholas Browne QC as he handed down the jail term at Wood Green Crown Court this morning. Mykoo will have to serve at least 14 years before he is eligible for parole.
His younger brother Matthew, who often participated in the assaults, was given an indeterminate life sentence and is expected to serve a minimum of nine years.
Veteran designer Farhi, 61, was strangled and robbed at knifepoint on the doorstep of her multimillion-pound home in London's Hampstead last April, losing an £8,000 ring, a watch and foreign currency.
She gave evidence against Mykoo in June, saying: "One hand came on to my eyes, the other on to my throat. He squeezed and I fainted. My last thought was how stupid to die in front of my house." Her husband, playwright David Hare, was inside at the time.
Although shaken by the ordeal, Farhi bounced back with a vengeance - in professional terms, at least. Her spring/summer 2010 show at the Royal Opera House on Sunday morning featured such top model models as Coco Rocha and Chanel Iman, and received rave reviews.
