She may have been on the modelling circuit since she was a tender 14 years old, but Naomi Campbell has made it clear that she's not going anywhere - at least, not until she's in her sixties.
"Next year, I'm celebrating 25 years in fashion - and here's to another 25," says the 39-year-old model. "Personally, I'm very happy and look forward to sharing many more special moments in this industry with my loved ones."
Last year, fashion re-embraced the original supermodels, and old-school faces such as Campbell, Christy Turlington and Claudia Schiffer monopolised the major luxury campaigns. Despite the financial crisis, brands such as Chanel and YSL blew the budget on the supers to inspire consumer confidence and appeal to an older, wealthier demographic.
Not that Campbell has ever been short of work. While many of her peers have stepped out of the fashion limelight to raise families and cultivate business interests, Campbell has always made it clear what her priorities are.
"I do find it incredibly important to be a representative of women of colour in fashion," she says. "There aren't enough of us and never have been. There's much more work we all need to do."
Her comments follow Claudia Schiffer's admission over the weekend that, despite posing as the face of Chanel last year, she has ruled out ever returning to the catwalk.
"I'm finished with the runway. I won't miss it," she told the Daily Telegraph. "I am still modelling and I enjoy that a lot, but no more runways. I can sit on the side and view the outfits and see all the detail and that suits me fine. It's very enjoyable. I like my new viewpoint."
