As the world's political leaders gather in London this week for the G20 summit, the world's fashion eyes are watching Michelle Obama and her choice of clothing. Ever since her celebrated inauguration outfits, she has been hailed as the next Jackie Kennedy. Leaving the US, she wore a white Thakoon coat and a black Michael Kors dress, and arrived, a few hours later in London, dressed in a chartreuse Jason Wu dress (Wu also designed her white inauguration ball gown).
"She knows what she likes and she'll wear it with great comfort and confidence," said Thakoon designer Thakoon Panichgul. "She's a dream customer."
Her glamour is in stark contrast to our own first lady Sarah Brown, as has been duly noted on Twitter and the fashion blogs. This morning, the Prime Minister's wife hosted Michelle, taking her on a visit to Maggie's Cancer Care Centre at Charing Cross Hospital. While Mrs Brown wore a sombre navy button-down dress and black pumps, her American counterpart sparkled in a spring-friendly mint green pencil skirt, a white vest under a J Crew cardigan adorned with sunlight-catching beads and a double string of pearls. Both women are due later at a reception held by the Queen.
