An inquest into the death of Alexander McQueen began this morning at Westminster Coroner's Court, where a post-mortem examination report confirmed that the designer - real name Lee - died as a result of asphyxiation caused by hanging.
McQueen's body was discovered in his Mayfair apartment last Thursday, on the eve of his mother Joyce's funeral. Detective Inspector Paul Armstrong of Charing Cross CID told the inquest there were no suspicious circumstances. It was also revealed that a note, which was handed to the coroner for further examination during the proceedings, was found at the scene.
As a subdued show season continues in New York, tributes to McQueen on both sides of the Atlantic continue thick and fast. Welsh classical singer Katherine Jenkins and Florence Welch of Florence And The Machine wore vintage McQueen creations on the Brits red carpet last night, while Lady Gaga declared before the show, "Tonight's performance is inspired by our friend - we miss you." According to reports, she had decorated her dressing room with photos and McQueen fabric samples as inspiration.
The inquest into his death was adjourned until 28 April.
