Fans of Matthew Williamsons colourful eponymous label are in for a treat, as news reaches us that the British designer is launching a diffusion line.
The new range, believed to be called Muse by Matthew Williamson and hitting stores in autumn 2011, will carry all the hallmarks of the designers main line think rainbow coloured pieces, exotic prints and embroidery but without the hefty price tag. Prices start at around £300 for a day dress.
Joseph Velosa, Williamsons business partner and the labels chief executive officer, told WWD: Weve been in business for 12 years, and we felt the time was right for a diffusion line. Its for a woman who wants feel-good clothing, and it will have the same aesthetic, DNA and surface signatures as the main line.
Williamson has delved into designing more affordable collections before, but never under his own label. He currently designs the Butterfly by Matthew Williamson range for department store Debenhams, and in April last year his collection for H&M caused a shopping frenzy with most pieces selling out within minutes, followed by a bidding war on auction site eBay, where items were sold at massively inflated prices as fans tried to grab a slice of Williamsons boho-luxe.
