Last week saw a shopping frenzy in H&M stores up and down the country when Matthew Williamson's collection for the brand hit the shop floor. Now there's a bidding frenzy on auction site eBay, as many sold-out-in-minutes pieces - 454 in fact - have popped up at massively inflated prices.
The peacock print shift dress, which sold out before any other piece and in a matter of minutes, is on sale on eBay for £220. It was originally priced at £49. You do the maths. The pink silk tulip dress (originally £39) is now going for £200, the quilted clutch bag (£34) for £135 and the pink cardigan (£49) for £110. But to top them all, the sequinned mini-dress (originally £149 and seen on Katy Perry and Mischa Barton) is going for a whopping £500. You could buy a silk kaftan dress from Matthew Williamson's main line for cheaper, £489 in fact, from online boutique net-a-porter. Even the cheapest item from the collection, a peacock pendant priced at £14.99, is going for more than five times its original price at £80!
But the Matthew Williamson for H&M collection is not the only designer/high street collab hitting eBay. This week saw fashion legend and founder of Biba, Barbara Hulanicki's collection for Topshop drop in-store, and the range's two stand out pieces - the floaty star print blouse seen on Mary-Kate Olsen and the coral bow shoulder dress - are already attracting big bids on the auctioning giant for more than three times the original price.
Maybe those 6am queues don't seem so bad after all...
