Marios Schwab joins Halston

News just in. After months of will he, won't he, speculation, London-based designer Marios Schwab has been named as the new creative director of Halston.

In his new role, the half-Austrian and half-Greek 31-year-old will be in charge of the American brand's main collection and take over from Marco Zanini on 1 July. Zanini left the company last year after just two troubled seasons at the helm.

Famous for his fashion forward designs much loved by the hip crowd, Schwab will move to New York to take up his new role with his first collection for Halston expected to be unveiled next February for autumn/winter 2010.

"Halston defines a moment in time, epitomising the glamour, escapism and decadence of the 1970s," Schwab told WWD. "The simplistic yet unquestionably glamorous silhouettes embody the fantasy side of fashion. While Halston's DNA is crucial to its future success, I very much wish to move the brand forward and make it relevant for today."

Marios Schwab launched his own label in 2005 and started showing at London Fashion Week the following year, often drawing on science and the workings of the human body for design inspiration. He has also created a range for Topshop's Boutique collections since 2007.

In other news, it has also been revealed that the brand will shortly launch the Halston Heritage collection, featuring reworks of original Halston looks.
