Robert Duffy's Twitter account has long been a source of information about his more elusive business partner Marc Jacobs and his namesake label. He's tweeted about Marc's naked fragrance ads for Bang, plans to open a bookshop and how Jacobs doesn't court any Oscar attendees to wear his dresses. The latest juicy revelation? That he is in discussions to launch a plus size line.
"We are in talks now. For plus sizes," the president of the Marc Jacobs label tweeted. "Listen, we are in the very beginning stages of talking to a partner about plus sizes. Relax. It won't be based on the collection line."
He went on to reveal that the mainline collection doesn't make enough profit alone, so the Marc Jacobs brand needs "to be supported with other things" such as the Marc by Marc Jacobs range, fragrances and childrenswear.
He added: "Marc and I are building a brand. That's what we do. Your right. We gotta do larger sizes. I'm with you. As soon as I get back to NY. I'm on it! It will take me about a year. But stay with us [sic]."
The Marc Jacobs label already produces items up to a size 16, but so far there's been no official confirmation that the brand will start to produce even larger sizes.
Meanwhile, the label is preparing for the launch of the first Marc Jacobs e-boutique, which goes live on 15 September. The launch will coincide with Jacobs' spring/summer 2011 catwalk show during New York Fashion Week and the opening of his new Manhattan book shop, Bookmarc.
