Another week, another scandal to hit Lindsay Lohan's 'fashion designer' status. This time, though, the house of Emanuel Ungaro can breathe a sigh of relief - it's Lohan's own 6126 line that's in the frame. Just days after having exclusively unveiled autumn/winter 2010 sketches for the expanded collection, Lohan has been accused by two designers of being a little too liberally 'inspired' by their designs.
Black Milk Clothing designer James Lillis pointed out the similarities between the 6126 Diamond leggings and his own Sheer Spartans legwear on his blog, commenting, "Caught a sneak peek at the new stuff from Lindsay Lohan's brand 6126... No way... Sucks to be me!"
Also in the spotlight is the 6126 Deserve dress, which has been compared to a Jen Kao creation that Lohan was papped wearing last year.
"While we are all well aware that being 'mimicked' or 'copied' has always existed in this industry, I think the evolution of it all has grown to an alarming level," said Kao. "It's a shame to support the concept of taking advantage of designers who are still trying to develop a name and solidify the image of their design aesthetic."
The team at 6126, however, have been quick off the mark to deny foul play.
"The alleged 'copying' claims made by these companies are false and have absolutely no merit or validity whatsoever," Kristi Kaylor, company president, told today's WWD. "Any alleged similarities are purely coincidental. The 6126 illustrations for the upcoming fall 2010 collections do not even describe the fabric content, fit or actual construction details of the garments. This is merely an accusation based upon a pencil sketch with no concrete viable evidence to back up the allegations."
