First came the announcement of a collaboration with Ugg. Now, Jimmy Choo is pressing ahead with its mission to expand its product offering into yet further unexpected territory with the launch of its first ever trainer range.
Tamara Mellon's ultra-glamorous Choo family is preparing to welcome an eight-piece line of high- and low-tops - albeit in the finest suede and snake skins, and a luxuriant palette of black, white, taupe and purple - into the family for pre-fall 2010. And, with prices starting from £295, they're a neat way of buying into the brand. Let's face it, they're bound to be more effective in the cost-per-wear stakes than a pair of delicate, 5-inch heel python stilettos (though, if that's your bag, there are some blinders featured elsewhere in the pre-collection).
While the fashion world was caught off-guard by the announcement that the label would be teaming up with Ugg Australia to create a capsule range of the iconic sheepskin boots pimped out with JC's signature details (which will be unveiled in October), it did prepare us somewhat for this latest off-piste manoeuvre.
"Other than Jimmy Choo, Ugg Australia is the only other footwear I have in my wardrobe," Tamara declared at the time.
Could it be that even Ms Mellon's feet are tiring of the tyranny of the heel, and she was simply looking to expand her off-duty wardrobe options?
Who cares, say we, when the result is this divine?
