Scottish designer Graeme Black has joined the team at Hugo Boss as the first ever creative consultant for its Boss Black line. Considered the most formal of Boss' offerings, Boss Black is stocked at up-market department stores such as Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale's as well as Boss and Boss Black standalone stores. It's an attractive prospect for the designer, who famously left Salvatore Ferragamo to concentrate on his own-name label, which he launched in 2005.
"I was apprehensive about travelling once again for work," said Black of the role, which requires him to to commute between his London home and Metzingen, Germany, where Hugo Boss is based. "But once I started, I realised this is such a dynamic, proactive and positive company, and the line has so much potential."
He has been working with Karin Busnel, director of Boss Black women's wear, on a collaborative collection to launch for spring/summer 2010. His vision? To make the line more feminine and luxe.
"The Boss Black label has never had an outside creative consultant before, and this move is a sign that we are investing in women's wear and taking it very seriously," Philipp Wolff, the company's senior vice president of communications, told WWD. "Graeme is a valuable addition to the design team - and a great inspiration."
