Beanie man

Spring Summer 2008,Agyness Deyn, hat Agyness Deyn and Josh Hubbard

Spring may have arrived, but the old adage "Ne\'er cast a clout \'til May is out" still rings true. And as our mums have always told us, the best way to keep warm is by wearing a hat. We have two suggestions: knitwear designer Madeleine Thompson\'s cashmere beanies (Agyness Deyn, pictured, is a fan, although boyfriend Josh Hubbard seems to have nicked it off her in this picture) and the new limited edition Andy Warhol art hats from CA4LA, to celebrate the brand\'s 10th anniversary. Umbrellas are so old hat.  -Danielle Radojcin

Madeleine Thompson beanies, £70, are available at Austique; the CA4LA shop is at 23 Pitfield Street, London, N1, tel. 0207 490 0055.

Lou la la!

Mary-Kate Olsen,Autumn Winter 2008-09,lou doillon Loui Doillon and Milla Jovovich

Parisien It Girl Lou Doillon showcased her second (as part of a six-collection deal) collection for Lee Cooper as part of fashion week, making sure her equally stylish mother, Jane Birkin, and mates - that\'s Milla Jovovich, Mary-Kate Olsen and Mischa Barton - all sat front row. Doillon, in her habitual Artful Dodger-inspired top hat and tails, was keen to make sure her cool fashion sense translated through to the clothes. "You know how we\'ve all patched, ripped and pinned denim - or anything else we could think of to make it more individual for that matter - well, that\'s the sort of spontaneous spirit I\'ve always admired, and was looking for here," she explained. "If Lee Cooper had wanted \'normal\', I really don\'t think they\'d have asked me and I\'m sure I haven\'t let them down!" Her first collection for the brand is in stores now. Go to leecooper.com for details. -Danielle Radojcin

Slipper sensation

Scarlett Johansson,Kirsten Dunst,Keira Knightley,Spring Summer 2008,Selfridges Keira Knightley chats with Blake Mycoskie

When Keira Knightley, Kirsten Dunst and Scarlett Johansson are fans of your work, and when your girlfriend is ex-Lost star Maggie Grace, it\'s safe to assume you know what women want. But for shoe designer Blake Mycoskie, it\'s about giving more. "Toms started out as a project with a modest goal of selling 200 pairs of shoes so that I could return to Argentina and give back to the kids that I\'d met. To date, we have given away 60,000 pairs of shoes: 10,000 in Argentina during our first year and, most recently, 50,000 in Africa. I hope to be giving away shoes for the rest of my life." This week saw the opening of Toms (a bastardisation of the phrase "tomorrow\'s shoes") at The Shoe Studio in Selfridges London. A bit like an espadrille, but with a rubber sole, the unisex slip-ons, which cost between £25 and £35, have already been a hit in America and are set to flourish here too. For every shoe you buy, Toms donates a pair to children in need. No wonder the girls like him!  -Danielle Radojcin

Light as a Fetherston

Kirsten Dunst, zooey deschanel,Erin Fetherston Erin Fetherston

Erin Fetherstone\'s success may be down to more than her talent for crafting a pretty dress. The up-and-coming American designer, who last year created a line for discount clothing store Target, has managed to persuade another of her friends to star in her latest fashion film, A Dreamy Wander. And seeing as that friend happens to be none other than indie actress Zooey Deschanel, it should get more than a little attention when it premiers at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Los Angeles at trendy nightclub Villa this week. The eight-minute film short is a collaboration with über-photographer Ellen Von Unwerth (most famous for her ‘Hello, Boys\' Wonderbra advert which made a star of Eva Herzigova), and draws on her Romeo and Juliet-inspired autumn/winter collection. This is their second project together, the first being 2006\'s Wendybird, which also featured another Fetherston pal, blockbuster princess Kirsten Dunst-Danielle Radojcin

Puma\'s new creative force

Alexander McQueen,Puma,hussein chalayan Hussein Chalayan

He may be known for his intellectual approach to fashion, but that hasn\'t stopped Cypriot-born designer Hussein Chalayan being appointed Creative Director of the mass-market appeal brand Puma. In his new role, the Central Saint Martins graduate will oversee the sport fashion collections of the brand, including footwear, apparel and accessories. Puma has also acquired a majority stake in Chalayan\'s London-based fashion business and eponymous brand. This is a deal in which everyone\'s a winner; while Chalayan gets the financial support any designer needs to thrive, Puma gets the kudos associated with a respected designer. In a statement, the designer said that he felt the partnership was a revolutionary one, and that he hopes to turn experimental ideas into reality for both the Chalayan and Puma lines. His work will first be seen in the 2009 collections. This is not the first time Puma have recruited a British-based talent. In 2006, Alexander McQueen signed up to a collaborative partnership to design men\'s and women\'s footwear.  -Danielle Radojcin

Online fashion fun

online,fashion,fun LaModeStreet.com

Three exciting fashion websites to have come to our attention this past week: misamu.com, a new online e-tailer notable for being the only online boutique to stock London label Anonymous by Ross + Bute. It also sells Australian brand Zayt, which is yet to arrive in the UK, meanwhile you can also get your hands on old favourites Kenneth Jay Lane and  Ella Moss tees. But if it\'s not new stuff you\'re after, online fashion swap shop whatsmineisyours.com, which has just relaunched, might be more up your street. Upload pictures of your unwanted clothing, and find something cool in return - a Miu Miu handbag, say, valued at a mere £150. LaModeStreet.com, meanwhile, gives you a virtual shopping experience without the crowds or hawkers. Stroll down a virtual street and browse in Spanish wedge espadrille supremos Castaňer\'s boutique, or find a style tome for your coffee table in the Taschen bookshop.  -Danielle Radojcin
