All change at Celine

celine,Phoebe Philo,Fashion news Phoebe Philo

After fierce speculation, it has been confirmed that Phoebe Philo will be joining French fashion house Celine as creative director. The British designer, who was a firm favourite with fashionable girls the world over when she headed up Chloe, will be joining the LVMH group in October to start on her debut Autumn/Winter 2009 collection.
Philo began working for Chloe in 1997 as Stella McCartney\'s design assistant and then quickly succeeded her as creative director in 2001 when Stella started her eponymous label. After resigning from Chloe in 2006 to focus on family commitments, Philo left the fashion world mourning the loss of a huge talent who truly understood what women want.
Luxury brand Celine was founded in 1945 by Celine Vipiana but has lately struggled to forge its own identity with ailing sales. Philo succeeds Croatian designer Ivana Omazic who joined the label in 2004 and it is hoped that her influence and cult status, will turn Celine around making the brand influential and relevant again.
"By giving her Celine, we\'re giving her a platform to express her vision," Pierre-Yves Roussel, executive officer of LVMH\'s fashion division told WWD.

Gisele\'s new gig

Max Factor, gisele bundchen,Fashion news Gisele Bundchen

Gisele Bündchen has just reinforced her status as the world\'s highest paid supermodel, with the signing of a new contract: as of October, she will be the new face of make-up brand Max Factor, which celebrates its centenary this year. She will replace actress Carmen Electra, who has represented them for the past three years.

Gisele is currently listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world\'s richest supermodel, with an estimated fortune of $150. The Brazilian babe, who is currently dating American football player Tom Brady, is rivalled only by Kate Moss in terms of her power as a model: after her contract with Victoria\'s Secret came to an end, their profits were rumoured to have dropped significantly. In which case, come October, expect sales of Max Factor\'s Lipfinity 3D Longwear Lip Colour to go through the roof.

Valentino unzipped

Eva Herzigova,Valentino,Fashion news Valentino and Eva Herzigova

He may have retired earlier this year, but Valentino shows no signs of slowing down. The past year saw him being trailed by documentary maker Matt Tyrnauer, the result of which is a film all about the glamourous life of the former couturier. Valentino: The Last Emperor, premiered at the Venice Film Festival this week, followed by a suitably star-studded after party. Accompanied by supermodel Eva Herzigova for his march down the red carpet, the designer was later joined by other guests such as Elizabeth Hurley, George Clooney and Brad Pitt (in town to promote their new film Burn After Reading), and Charlize Theron. The film is due for general release later this year.

Peter Loftin, the current owner of the late fashion designer Gianni Versace\'s infamous estate in Miami, plans to open the iconic location as a glamourous nightclub. The telecommunications billionaire purchased the house from the Versace estate in September 2000 for a reported sum of $16 million, and has since converted the property into a hotel and members club.

Currently known as the Casa Casuarina, the South Beach mansion was once reserved for the rich and famous as an exclusive private members club, offering rooms for overnight stays and events. However, in an attempt to allow the public to explore the splendours of the late designers\' home, Loftin is welcoming visitors throughout September to party and look around the mansion at a tour price of $50. Dubbed "the Casa Experience", it offers a series of guided tours honouring the venues iconic history and architectural beauty and is open until 30th September 2008. So, if you\'re heading down to Miami any time soon why not check out this unique experience, which, in Mr Loftin\'s words, is "too magical a place not to share with a wider audience." Jordan Wallace

Henry Holland does denim

Levis,henry holland,Fashion news Henry Holland

Levi\'s has signed a deal with directional fashion label House of Holland to create an exclusive capsule denim collection. The much-anticipated collaboration is set to hit the catwalk later this month.

Inspired by 90s US youth culture, the unisex limited edition collection comprises of 501 jeans each uniquely customised, featuring laser-cutting, printed polka dots and floral patterns.

"Being involved in the relaunch of something as iconic as the Levi\'s 501 is a real honour and has allowed me to work with denim properly for the first time. I\'m so happy with the outcome," said House of Holland designer Henry Holland.

The six-piece collection, which will debut at London Fashion Week on 17 September in House of Holland\'s spring/summer 2009 show, will be available exclusively at Selfridges\'s Superbrands department from 18 September, and will be attended by Mr. Holland himself at 12 noon. Oscar online

Oscar de la Renta, lanvin, rick owens,Fashion news Backstage at Oscar de la Renta A/W 08

A trio of boutiques are set to spring up on the increasingly trendy Mount Street in the coming months, with Rick Owens, Wunderkind and Lanvin all setting up shop. They will take their place proudly alongside Marc Jacobs - the designer who first marked the areas cool potential - as well as Christian Louboutin and Balenciaga. Scott\'s Restaurant, favourite of the likes of Kate Moss and Jemima Khan, and the recently revamped Connaught Hotel, are also there, with Dunhill\'s hotly-anticipated concept store, Home of Alfred Dunhill, opening in September on nearby Davies Street. Truly, Oxford Street never looked like such an ugly neighbour.

In other news, New York designer Oscar de la Renta is back online, after the e-commerce site was pulled down earlier in the year. "As well as providing an excellent online retail experience to our existing clientele, I also hope to reach new customers around the world who desire the product but who perhaps do not have easy access to one of our existing boutiques", the designer told Women\'s Wear Daily.
