Halston\'s designer steps down

tamara mellon,halston Halston, Autumn/Winter 2008/9

He was there for but one season, but Marco Zanini has already stepped down as creative director at the recently revived house of Halston. According to reports, he resigned over differences regarding the planned aesthetic identity of the brand, and will not have his name attached to the upcoming Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Zanini had previously worked in the style offices of Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Lawrence Steele and made his runway debut with the new-look Halston during New York Fashion Week last February. His first collection for Halston, shown last February during New York Fashion Week, received mixed reviews, although it sold out almost immediately in a special deal with Net-A-Porter. Rumours are now flying that Tamara Mellon, who co-owns the Halston label with movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, will be taking a more central role, and turning it around in the way she did with Jimmy Choo. Rachel Zoe, who was also originally involved in the revamping of the brand, has also been conspicuously absent.

That\'s Salvatore

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the house of Salvatore Ferragamo, the shoe designer famous for designing the cork wedge heel, and dressing the feet of screen legends like Ava Gardner and Marilyn Monroe. As part of the ongoing celebrations, the house has created an exclusive line of footwear for London\'s Dover Street Market, which lovingly references the heritage of the brand. The pieces in the collection, which will be for sale in-store until September, make up a limited and numbered series of historic shoes and iconic bags, with each of the styles created by hand using original designs and materials. In a final flourish, the designs also feature the original Ferragamo label, designed in 1927 by the Futurist Lucio Venna.

Lee Cooper teams up with Giles

This year sees the centennial of Lee Cooper, the brand who bills itself as "The finest English denim brand since 1908." And what better way to celebrate than by recruiting some of fashion\'s most glamorous talent? Project 100 sees the British brand collaborating with the likes of Giles Deacon and Jade Jagger, among others, in a bid to come up with some truly iconic celebratory pieces. Giles, for example, has created a dress made out of a bio-denim and adorned at the neck with a crucifix made from Swarovski crystals. Jagger, meanwhile, has customized a denim jacket with a pair of gold lips reminiscent of the Rolling Stones\' logo - an apt appropriation seeing as Lee Cooper sponsored the band\'s 1982 tour. All the items will be on display and then auctioned off at the famous Druout-Montaigne auction house in Paris later this year, with proceeds going to The Red Cross.

Stella McCartney\'s hotly anticipated organic line is now in UK stores. Originally launched last September in New York department store Barneys as part of their expansion of eco-friendly and ethical fashion, the collection was so successful  that the Milan-based designer decided to launch in Los Angeles and Europe too, as well as online. The Autumn-Winter Organic Collection consists of 20 exclusive styles that not only use all organic fabrics, but are also ethical and sustainable. Pieces include a box jacket and oversize coat, both featuring exaggerated, angular, three quarter length sleeves, echoing the concept of the Autumn Winter show, in fabrics like cotton voile and twill and jersey.

Exclusively at Harvey Nichols and the Stella McCartney boutique on Bruton Street, London, as well as online.

yves, saint, laurent Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé

Pierre Bergé, business partner and erstwhile lover of the late Yves Saint Laurent, is to auction off their respective art collections, it has been announced. The sale, which is planned to take place at Christie\'s next February, will feature works from the late designer\'s house at rue de Babylone in Paris, including pieces by modern masters such as Goya, Mondrian and Matisse. Bergé\'s collection from his house on rue Bonaparte, meanwhile, contains more classic but no less prestigious works from the Renaissance and Romantic periods. Bergé, who formed a civil union with the designer shortly before his death, will take half the proceeds, with the rest going to the Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé Foundation
