Models at Gucci\'s 70th anniversary party
If your brand name is Gucci and it’s your seventieth birthday, a party is not just expected, it’s assumed. Frida Giannini, the house’s creative director, this week hosted a series of events which more than lived up to the Italian brand’s luxurious heritage. First up, a catwalk to show off the new cruise collection, followed by dinner and an afterparty all set in the glamorous locale of the Villa Aurelia, a seventeenth century building in Rome. The Eternal City, which holds a special significance, both for Gucci in terms of its famous shop there, and Giannini herself, who was born and raised in the Italian capital, also complimented the collection, which was inspired by the glamorous jet-set crowd who made Rome their playground during the 70’s. Giannini also included in the show the debut of a series of five evening gowns which she had designed as a special tribute to her home town. Among the glamorous guests were Fiat heir Lapo Elkann, actors Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy, as well as a swathe of models like Natasha Poly, who is one of the faces of Gucci perfume.

Lily Cole
After all the speculation as to whether or not Kate Moss would be retained as the face of Rimmel London - would Alexa Chung take over? Would Daisy Lowe? - the British make-up brand has this week announced that rather than dropping Moss, they are adding two new faces to their stable; namely, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Lily Cole. Singer and songwriter Ellis-Bextor, and Cole, who as well as modelling for brands like Marks & Spencer also studies at Cambridge and has been trying her hand at acting, will appear in a number of campaigns later this year, while Moss will continue to feature in her own ads. Ellis-Bextor said she was very honoured to work alongside Moss, while Cole added that for her, "both Kate and Rimmel represent the best of London style."

Swarovski headphones
Taking a turn in the DJ booth has become something of a trend among the fashion crowd lately, what with everyone from Giles Deacon to Anouk Lepere to Lindsay Lohan showing off their disc-spinning skills at any of your trendy clubs or parties. Now fashion photographer Nick Knight, famous for his iconic Vogue covers of Kate Moss, has taken the trend to the next level, teaming his fashion showcase website SHOWStudio with crystal maestros Swarovski. The project, titled Fashion DJ, sees Naomi Campbell, the aforementioned Mr. Deacon, and Gareth Pugh, among others, hosting a set of online disc-jockeying and web chat over a three day period. Knight, who said in a statement that "Music has always been a crucial part of fashion, from the soundtracks of the catwalk to the beat the models move to in front of the photographer\'s camera", will film the event throughout the event in order for it to be screened from midday to midnight each day on SHOWstudio.com as well as broadcast on 87.7FM.

Luella for Urban Outfitters
The influence of Luella Bartley cannot be underestimated right now. The impact of her spring/summer 2008 collection, with its kicky floral dresses punked up with black netting, have resulted in one of this summer\'s biggest trends, with knock-offs spotted in every high street store. This ability to tap into the youthful Zeitgeist will stand her in good stead for her latest project, a collection for upmarket high street boutique Urban Outfitters. Available from mid-July, and with a price range that starts at £39, the collection is brimming wit gothic lace, Victorian style puff sleeves (a major trend at the Couture last week) as well as some crisp white peasant shirts. Inspired by ‘witchcraft with a hint of the Swedish hilltops\', acccording to a statement, expect to see the range, which also features some natty handbags replete with fringing, bells and ribbons, to enchant us all in upcoming weeks.

Preen for Nokia Skate Almighty
They may have been relegated to the back of the toy cupboard with the advent of roller blades, but, this summer roller skates will be experiencing something of a fashion revival, if the likes of Miu Miu (who featured them in a recent campaign) and Armani (who created a branded pair) are anything to go by. For those who love a bit of glitter ball action, the Nokia Skate Almighy roller disco is a series of events taking place in Manchester, Birmingham and London towards the end of July. Those wishing to take part in the event, which is free of charge, can obtain tickets online. British fashion duo Preen have been commissioned by Nokia to design five pairs of skates, each corresponding to a different type of music (available to buy on the Preen website). Modelled in a campaign by It girl Alice Dellal, the trendy skates are proof that skating is well and truly on a roll.

Burberry,Rosie Huntington-Whiteley
Burberry autumn/winter 2008/9 campaign
Recruit one of Britain\'s most promising - not to mention rather beautiful - hot young actors, team with one of our most striking models, attire them in some sharp threads and an It bag, pose them in front of one of the world\'s most famous photographers, and what do you get? One of the most arresting ad campaigns of the upcoming season. The recipe, dreamed up by Burberry, features Sam Riley (so devastatingly convincing as Ian Curtis in last year\'s Control), Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (spotted on the arm of James Jagger at Leah Wood\'s wedding recently) photographed in moody black and white by Mario Testino in London\'s Kensington Gardens. The Lowry bag, new for the season, will be available in three sizes and in luxurious fabrics like ruched ribbon iguana or degradé suede leather. We predict Sam, Rosie and the Lowry are all here to stay.
