Golden Globes cancelled

Fashion houses around the globe had to resign themselves to the news that the Golden Globes has been cancelled, and along with it the loss of millions of pounds worth of free advertising. As a result of the Writers Guild of America strike, worries are now starting to surface that - worse still - the Oscars, widely seen as the biggest annual event on the fashion calendar,  may not go ahead if the deadlock between studios, actors and writers continues. An actress who wears a designer dress on the red carpet, especially a nominee and in particular a winner, will guarantee column inches and mentions on websites for the entire year. Reports have estimated, for example, that when Julia Roberts wore vintage Valentino when she won best actress for Erin Brokovich, left, it was worth 25 million dollars in free advertising for the  brand.

Kate Bosworth\'s denim delight

Jennifer Connelly,Calvin Klein,Balenciaga, kate bosworth Kate Bosworth

Actress and fashion darling Kate Bosworth has posed for the latest Calvin Klein Jeans advertising campaign, shot by edgy photographer David Sims. Orlando Bloom\'s ex, who is currently working on a film called ‘21\',  is said to have landed the contract after she attended a Calvin Klein show and co-hosted the post-show dinner for Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa last year.

In other actress / campaign news, Jennifer Connolly has posed for the new Balenciaga ads. Connolly, a muse to Balenciaga designer Nicholas Ghesquière, often wears his designs for red carpet apprearances. What we\'re really waiting for, though, is Posh Spice in the new Marc Jacobs campaign.

Cavalli spices up his show

spice girls, roberto cavalli The Spice Girls

Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli, famous for his extroverted and sexy styles, has designed the costumes for the Spice Girls\' reunion tour. In return? They have agreed to make an appearance at his menswear show next week in Milan, where French rock band Rock&Roll will also be sitting in the front row. Will there be a girl/boy band face-off?

Luella hangs on to her roots

Good news for Luella fans: the British designer, who last September celebrated the opening of her first London boutique by showing her collection here rather than in New York, has decided that Blighty is once again the venue for her. Whether she will once again show at Claridges has yet to be decided, but a spokesperson said she is just keen to support London Fashion Week. And we can\'t help liking her that little bit more for that.

Designers favorite colour is green

Victoria Beckham,Marc Jacobs Victoria Beckham and Marc Jacobs

Iris blue may have been predicted as the colour for 2008 (according to colour experts Pantone), but expect - metaphorically speaking, at least -  this year to be all about green. Marc Jacobs (with Victoria Beckham, left, who stars in his new ad campaign), Stella McCartney, Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Jil Sander, Donna Karan, Versace and Narciso Rodriguez are among the fashion houses that have agreed to take part in the Earth Pledge\'s Future Fashion runway show taking place on 31 January, where the designers will create one-of-a-kind pieces in order to raise awareness about the need to use sustainable materials in the fashion industry. Who says fashion is all about narcissim?

Fashion doll

Selfridges, viktor and rolf Viktor & Rolf doll at Selfridges

Who would\'ve thought you could get fashion envy from a toy? Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf have designed a line of doll\'s clothes for an installation at Selfridges in London. The pair have created seven outfits for the antique porcelain toys, which are on show in the store\'s so-called Wonderwall, a regular rotating showcase for designers\' and artists\' work. But this isn\'t your average twee doll scenario. This being Viktor & Rolf, there is a twist: a TV screen next to each doll, along with a pair of gold headphones, in order for shoppers to be able to see and listen to the original outfit when it was first modelled on the runway. The designers will also be showcasing their work at an exhibition at the Barbican in London from 18 June to September 14 2008.
