Not content with being an actress in the most successful film franchise in history (Harry Potter, in case you hadn't guessed) and having just started a literature degree at the prestigious Brown University in the United States, Emma Watson has confirmed that she will be turning her hand to fashion designing.
The 19-year-old Harry Potter star has revealed that she will design a collection of teenage clothing, to launch in February 2010, for the ethical and fair-trade fashion brand People Tree. The People Tree Love Emma spring/summer 2010 collection, of which Watson will act as creative advisor, will feature 26 pieces, including knitwear, soft cotton T-shirts, jersey dresses, poplin skirts, shorts and accessories. A second summer drop of eight styles will land later in the year.
Emma Watson, who worked closely with People Tree's in-house design team to create the capsule collection, said: "I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to help alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with."
She added: "I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren't many options out there. It has been the most incredible gap year project."
People Tree is currently stocked at Topshop and online at peopletree.co.uk.
