Following the recent surprise report that Louis Vuitton has snapped up up-and-coming London model Daisy Lowe to star in its spring/summer 2010 lookbook, it's perhaps less surprising to hear that LV's poster girl, Madonna, is also moving onto pastures new - that is, all the way over to rival label Dolce & Gabbana.
The Material Girl has already been shot by Steven Klein in New York for Dolce & Gabbana's spring/summer 2010 ads and, despite the fact that most designers are fiercely protective of their upcoming campaigns, Stefano Gabbana hasn't been able to hold back his delight at the resulting images on Twitter.
"On the shooting with Domenico... We are at the last shot... M is simply beautiful... We're very, very tired but very happy as well... To have Madonna in our campaign is a dream come true," he wrote.
Madonna caused controversy her first campaign shots for Louis Vuitton, which showed the 51-year-old mother-of-four posing with her legs splayed provocatively, were released last year. But she's no stranger to outraging public decency, and the D&G shots will undoubtedly promise to be just as gossip-worthy when they're released next year.
Madonna has a long relationship with Gabbana and his design partner, Domenico Dolce: the duo designed the costumes for the singer's 1993 The Girlie Show tour, reprising their role for last year's Sticky & Sweet tour.
Having completed her latest designer assignment, Her Madgesty is taking a well-earned break, having flown today to Rio de Janeiro where it's reported that she'll be introduced to toyboy Jesus Luz's mother Cristiane Regina da Silva for the first time.
