While most people would surely be delighted to have one of the world's most respected actresses playing them in a film, it seems that Dame Vivienne Westwood's opinions are - rather unsurprisingly - less orthodox. Following reports earlier this year that Kate Winslet was to play the lead in a biopic about the British designer, it was claimed yesterday in The Mail On Sunday that the plans had been put on hold. Whispers have apparently been circulating that Dame Viv was not keen on having Kate, who stars in the upcoming Revolutionary Road with Leonardo Di Caprio, taking the role, as she "would have had to shadow Vivienne for weeks and that idea did not appeal." Perhaps Kate's mainstream image is not quite edgy enough for the 67-year old designer? With her history of shock tactics - from her Sex shop in the '70s to flashing her private parts on a visit to the Queen in 1992 - did she have someone a little more outrageous in mind, like Pamela Anderson, who features in the upcoming ad campaign? A spokesman for Vivienne Westwood said the rumours were untrue. "I'm afraid all the news that's been going round isn't accurate at all. It was a rumour that Kate Winslet was playing Vivienne Westwood, so to say Kate has been dropped is not even true as never at any point was any actress being cast for the role."
