Burberry is a fashion brand with one eye firmly on the future. After successfully streaming its London autumn/winter 2010 show live in 3D in four major cities yesterday, the classic British label is looking to embrace the web some more. The clever people at Burberry (yes, we're talking about you Christopher Bailey) have announced that for a limited time only shoppers can snap up pieces from the aviator-inspired autumn/winter 2010 Prorsum collection - think shearling lined flight jackets and buckled boots - from today, just by logging on. Fans lusting after the new season collection won't have to wait the usual six months before getting their hands on the pieces and can, from today until 26 February, buy selected items from the online Burberry shop to be delivered to your door within six to eight weeks. Brilliant! Web shoppers will be able to choose from a range of 18 coats and 33 handbags that have been specially selected and made available this week.
Burberry is just the latest in a string of fashion brands allowing consumers to buy clothes shortly after they are unveiled on the catwalk without the usual six month wait. Henry Holland, in a collaboration with Blackberry, created an application that allowed people to purchase his House of Holland slogan T-shirts on the same day that they debuted on the catwalk. Vivienne Westwood is embracing this innovative development too, making the mini Melissa wellies from her recent Red Label show available to buy now. Long may it continue!
