Audrey Hepburn fans, listen up. Next month will see the largest sale of couture pieces and accessories belonging to the late Audrey Hepburn, star of film classics such as Breakfast At Tiffany's and My Fair Lady. Yes, you read that right, from December you could own a little black dress, tweed coat or a hat from the screen legend's personal wardrobe.
The collection, 36 pieces in total, features cocktail dresses, blouses, tweed coats, evening jackets and negligees - as well as hats and belts - dating from 1953 to the late ‘60s, which will all be sold by Kerry Taylor Auctions in association with Sotheby's. The eveningwear collection alone includes a number of little black dresses by Valentino, Elizabeth Arden and Hubert de Givenchy, for whom Hepburn became a muse.
Also up for grabs is a black cloqué silk gown Hepburn wore in the 1964 romantic comedy Paris When It Sizzles and a Chantilly lace cocktail dress she wore in How To Steal A Million in 1966, both by Givenchy. The auction also includes the ivory satin wedding dress designed by the Fontana sisters for Hepburn's aborted marriage to businessman James Hanson, which is expected to fetch between £8,000 and £12,000.
If that wasn't enough, fans of the British actress and style icon can also buy several letters penned by the star in which she describes an early film break, her proposed wedding to Hanson and her memoirs from the set of Roman Holiday, for which she won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1953.
Half of all the proceeds will go to The Audrey Hepburn Children's Fund and Unicef joint venture, All Children In School, which aims to provide basic education for children worldwide not currently in school.
The auction takes place on Tuesday 8 December 2009 at 2pm at the La Galleria, Royal Opera Arcade, Pall Mall, London, with estimates starting at £400. An exhibition of the pieces will run from 6 to 8 December. Put it in your diary now.
