Remember back in November when we told you about Topshop's Dress Me Up charity dress hire project, where you could rent a one-of-a-kind gown worn by a stylish star for your Christmas parties? Well, now you can have that dream dress for keeps. No, really. Because the high street giant is putting all the gowns donated by their celebrity chums under the hammer in aid of Age Concern and Help The Aged. On the 16 March the collection of dresses will be auctioned by Kerry Taylor Auctions in London with estimates starting at just £80. But fear not if you don't live near the capital, because from today bidders can make an online offer simply by logging on and visiting invaluable.com.
This means that supermodel Kate Moss' beaded Lanvin party dress could now take pride of place in your wardrobe, and actress Scarlett Johansson's animal print dress by Nanette Lepore and Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto's pale yellow Burberry Prorsum dress, which she wore to the label's spring catwalk show during London Fashion Week in September, could be yours. Other items up for grabs include a full length floral gown by Dolce & Gabbana from Peaches Geldof, a midnight blue evening dress by Australian designer Jayson Brunsdon from burlesque dancer Dita Von Teese and a bespoke stage costume that Girls Aloud singer Nicola Roberts wore on the band's recent tour. Naomi Campbell, Little Boots, Alison Goldfrapp, Olivia Palermo and Jourdan Dunn have all donated dresses too, as well as designers Christopher Kane, Emma Cook, Richard Nicoll and Jonathan Saunders, who have all given pieces from their own labels.
If you would like to bid in person, the auction takes place on Tuesday 16 March 2010 at 10.30am at Unit C25, 40 Martell Road, London, SE21 8EN, with estimates starting at £80. A viewing exhibition of the dresses will run from 14 to 15 March. Put it in your diary now.
