Luella Bartley may have faced an annus horribilis in 2009 (her label went bust in November after backer Club 21 withdrew its support), but she's starting 2010 on a high note having been awarded an MBE for services to the fashion industry.
She's one of a handful of fashion world names to have made the cut for the eagerly-anticipated New Year Honours list 2010. Joining her are beloved British milliner Stephen Jones, veteran designer Amanda Wakeley and Ultimo founder Michelle Mone, all of whom will receive OBEs.
Wakeley, who regained outright control of her own-name label in 2009 after a lengthy legal process, confessed to being "extremely humbled" to be honoured.
"It's an incredible way to complete an extraordinary year," she told press as the news was announced. "It is also recognition for the talented and committed teams that I am fortunate to work with both in my own business and at Fashion Targets Breast Cancer."
Other creative figures earmarked for honours include homewares designer Cath Kidston and tailors Timothy Everest and Imtaz Khaliq, all of whom receive MBEs. The director of London's Victoria and Albert Museum, Mark Jones, will be knighted.
