He's at it again! As we mentioned yesterday, Karl Lagerfeld just can't find enough projects to keep himself busy. He's turned his hand to photography to capture Florence Welch (his muse for his Chanel S/S'12 collection) in a unique series of portraits that are exclusive to limited edition vinyl releases of the new single 'Shake it Out' from Florence + the Machine. The cover image shows Florence reclining against a pale landscape in the ivory lace dress she wore to close the Chanel S/S'12 show show with Karl himself. Her dramatic scarlet hair and pale skin lend a Thirties feel to the image; it seems to reflect the work of iconic female artist Tamara de Lempicka, who famously painted defiantly strong portraits of women. Highly appropriate for Florence, who is known for her free-spirited, eccentric sense of style which often recalls women of the past.
The vinyl singles themselves are an artistic collaboration between Florence and her new pal Karl, so as you'd expect, they are a pretty fancy affair. Each cover has been screen printed, silver foiled and hand numbered on pristine white card and features the portraits personally taken by the fashion legend, which will remain exclusive to these releases - the only physical way you can buy 'Shake it Out'. Any product that has undergone Karl's creative direction comes with a significant price tag, so these vinyls are available to pre-order for *sharp intake of breath* fifty Great British Pounds. But for a slice of music history and fashion magic, some people might see that as a steal. Florence debuted her new album Ceremonials in full last night, so we look forward to hearing and seeing more from this musical goddess and fashion icon when it goes on general release at the end of the month.
