This year’s bash is set to be the most glamorous yet, with supermodels taking centre stage.

The Metropolitan Museum Of Art's annual Costume Institute gala is, as has so often been repeated by now, the only event to beat the Oscars in terms of sheer star wattage and red carpet glamour. Traditionally co-hosted by Anna Wintour, the New York bash attracts the kind of fashion attention - and press exposure - that only fashion's new favourite Michelle Obama can rival.

Remember Gisele on the arm of Tom Brady at last year's event? Which fashionista does by now not know that the sliver of pale pink she poured her perfect body in to was by Versace? Or that Cameron Diaz, in a fuschia, tiered flamenco dress with turquoise jewellery, was wearing Christian Dior by John Galliano in 2007?

This year (next Monday evening, to be precise), with the theme of Model As Muse, the line-up promises to be the most fashionable yet. While who will dress whom is shrouded in secrecy, advance gossip tells us that Marc Jacobs will dress co-host Kate Moss (Wintour and Justin Timberlake are also co-hosts), while Madonna will wear Louis Vuitton, the other label Jacobs designs for.

Other big name designers include Calvin Klein's Francisco Costa, who is rumoured to be clothing Halle Berry, while Karl Lagerfeld is said to be in charge of Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson's attire.

Another starlet, Rachel Bilson, will be in head-to-toe Brian Atwood.

But what of the models? Well, other than Moss, expect Jessica Stam in Rodarte, Lily Donaldson in Narciso Rodriguez and Liya Kebede in Derek Lam.

No word yet on who the lucky tailors of old-time supes Claudia Schiffer, Christy Turlington or Eva Herzigova will be. No word, either, on whether fashion's new favourite Michelle Obama will attend - but if she does, then whoever dresses her will surely have scored the fashion coup of the year.
